Another backyard wedding!

One year ago this weekend, I coordinated a backyard wedding in Naples, this year's backyard wedding was in Sarasota. It was a beautiful afternoon and the yard looking awesome. The FOB had spent months getting the landscaping looking just right and building a pergola, deck, etc. I arrived in town around noon and quickly went to work hanging lanterns, setting tables and tons of candles. It was a special and tender ceremony and reception for a sweet couple and their two children. I was honored to coordinate this wedding for this dear family!

Last weekend my husband, Jim; daughter, Sarah; the amazing photographer, Ashley Brockinton and her lovely mother, Jill traveled to Lake George to celebrate the marriage of Stephen & Elizabeth! I was privileged to coordinate the details for the delightful and creative bride and my husband officiated the wedding. By Friday afternoon, I was in total "wedding mode" and was amazed at the wedding details that the bride organized.

Elizabeth works at Anthropologia in their "visual" department. She thought of everything and, with the help of friends, made everything: mustaches for the "guest book" photo "booth", brown paper bag table cloth "overlays", her dad cut the wood, she wrapped miscellaneous jars with twine, etc. She even made the cake topper out of twigs in the letter "B"!

The wedding was held at the YMCA at Silver Bay. The scenery was beautiful, the photo opps were many, the staff was outstanding - all in all - it is a great place for a destination wedding. Erin & Michelle went above and beyond to make this event extra special. Everything ran so smoothly and the food was delicious. The staff was very attentive and took care of all the details. Totally loved working with them. They have my highest recommendation - THANK YOU Erin & Michelle!

My favorite moment was when they started saying their vows and the groom began, "I, Stephen, take you Elizabeth ...." Stephen has waited a long time for God to bring him his wife. When he introduced her to us months ago, he said, "Wasn't she worth waiting for?" I was doing the "happy dance" in the back of the church.

Happy Fifth Anniversary Michael & Sarah!

Five years ago my son, Michael, married his love, Sarah, and gave me the perfect daughter-in-love. Today I celebrate their marriage, their love, their faith and yes, their son and their daughter - I'm a proud Gramma!

Their wedding day was the best day ever! They had a destination wedding in Hendersonville, North Carolina at Camp Kanuga, an Episcopal family camp. Family and friends arrived on Friday, we partied and organized all day Saturday and the wedding was Sunday afternoon.

I helped Sarah's mom plan the wedding, I designed the flowers, my husband officiated the wedding and I enlisted two dear friends to execute the plan for me so I could focus on what God was doing in my family's life.

My friends that acted as the "day of coordinator" are two beautiful women, friends and former brides! There were so many details that fell into place. The church on the camp property was so beautiful and we walked down the hill to the lakeside pavilion for the reception. There was wine and Mountain Dew, a pasta bar, carrot cake and a Blue Grass band. We had a blast and the party continued all week.

I have so many memories from that day: praying for my son after he got dressed, the part of the ceremony when the parents prayed over the bride & groom, dancing the "Hokey Pokey" with my dad, arranging for a friend to hide Michael's Mini Cooper so no one could "decorate" it, and watching the newlyweds drive off into the sunset! I could go on and on with details, but these are good for now.

Engagement Shoot in Central Park

Yesterday I was privileged to be able to "crash" an engagement shoot with my bride and groom, Zara & Luis and one of my favorite photographers, Stephen DeVries. It was a beautiful, hot day in Central Park but it matched our beautiful and hot couple. I snapped a few shots of Stephen in action and can't wait to see his photos.

We met Stephen last year in NYC when he was on staff with Times Square Church. Stephen moved back to Birmingham, AL but travels throughout the US shooting amazing weddings. He is a published film photographer and I am blessed to know him as a friend and even more excited about getting to work with him again on Zara & Luis's wedding next year in NYC. Thanks Stephen for letting me hang out with you all.

NYC Wedding Connection May Event

WOW! We had such a great time last night at the NYC Wedding Connection. About 35 vendors attended and shared a glass a wine, a cupcake (s) and lots of fun sharing what we do and what we love!

I want to especially thank Jen & Neil Brown from the Salt Space at Broadway & 27th St. for hosting our event. The venue is the home of Gallery Church and is used as a community resource. The Salt Space hosts jazz concerts, art shows, fundraisers, etc. The current exhibit is the Senior Projects from FIT! It was a treat to be in the space surrounded by the work of these talented students.

Several vendors provided fun for the evening: Elezye Elegant Cover Ups provided linens, Sweet Element brought cupcakes, Joslyn Dehner displayed beautiful jewelry from Stella & Dot, Royale Amethyst showed off her beautiful invitations, Nancy Swiezy Events & Floral donated a lovely floral arrangement, and Sharon Becker performed her makeup magic. Other vendors who brought portfolios, albums and products included: Nasilele Photography, Kelly Koenig, Glyph Creative Studio, Naturally Susan's, Natalie Wellness, J & J Photography, Trupp Photography, Sara Wight Photography, Mickey Micklos Films, Worship Luxury, and KatHempel Photography.

OMGosh - I don't know where to begin describing this wedding. I'm calling it my "Royal Wedding"! For many reasons, the bride is a princess and deserved the day she has dreamt of her whole life. What a joy it was to be a part of the wedding celebration. Both families came together for the themed weekend, "Faith, Family, Fun". There were t-shirts, incredible gift bags, hospitality suite, a Mother's Day brunch, rehearsal dinner cruise, "cousin dances", etc. The MOB is a Creative Memories Field Manager and my bride is incredibly creative. Everything was cut, cropped, copied and crafted. It truly was a fun and beautiful event.

I could go on and on about the details of this wedding including the bride's unique idea of using cakes as some of the centerpieces or the fact that she wore her mother's bridal veil, but I won't - enjoy my photos!

The ceremony and reception were held at Mediterra Country Club - I love the venue and MaryAnn and her staff were amazing! Our team for the day included: Astrid & Rene Photography, AMC Video, the Robert Williamson Band, Mikkelson's Bakery, Photomingle, Lyfe of the Party, Niche Rentals, KCTecs, and Connie Duglin Linens. Kiley Melheim and Nancy Joseph worked their magic on hair and makeup.

Jennifer & Evan are married!

I had the pleasure of coordinating Jennifer & Evan's wedding on April 30th at the Naples Bay Resort. My couple live in NJ but chose Naples for their destination wedding with 40 of the closest friends and family! We held a sweet Jewish wedding on the beach at 18th Avenue with Rabbi Barras. The guests were treated to a trip to the beach by Naples Tours & Transportation complete with champagne! Upon their arrival back at Naples Bay Resort, we held a cocktail reception outdoors around the pool at the Yacht club and then we moved inside for a wonderful dinner and dancing. Everyone had such a great time and they danced the night away to DJ Cesar. The girls at Lyfe of the Party provided beautiful and elegant floral design and Gracie's Cupcakes made a "splash" for dessert. We added beautiful linens from Connie Duglin Linens to add sparkle to the room. My friend and awesome photog, Stephen DeVries flew down from Birmingham to shoot the wedding. I can't wait to see the pictures. Lynn and the staff at the yacht club were excellent to work with and my NJ couple spent their first few days as husband and wife enjoying the sun and surf in Naples!

One year later - Congrats Jillian & Ryan! What a love story! They met and dated in High School, went their separate ways and then last year, God brought them back together! It was such a privilege to be involved in their wedding plans. Jillian is incredibly talented and brought her vision through so many creative DIY projects. She was so organized and so detailed - it made my job so easy. The wedding was held in her parent's backyard where months of landscaping and wiring work became a reality on the wedding day. Kudos to FOB who is a landscape architect and the FOG who is an electrician! I can't possibly describe all details that made this wedding so special and fun. The guests sat at the dinner tables during the ceremony and the "ceremony" site became the dance floor when the sun set!

Ashley Brockinton Photography was on the scene! All the bridal photographs were taken the Monday before the wedding - such an awesome idea. Fun family and bridal party photos were taken during the day. The flowers were ordered at Costco and put together by me and a team of friends! The boutonnieres were purchased on Etsy. The placecards were made by the bride using photos from Facebook! The tables, chairs, linens and tableware were ordered from Taylor Rental and the catering company was "Frisco's". They brought an great pasta bar for everyone to din on! The cake was baked by a friend of the bride and included a gluten free layer for special guests! It was the last of my November weddings in FL. The bride and groom left and the party continued. It was such a blast.

I guess I'm a little behind in my blogging. My second wedding in FL in November was for Matt & Rachel. An adorable couple that met on EHarmony! Matt is in the military stationed in NC and was so handsome in his dress blues! Rachel was a stunning bride and her mother was one of my favorite MOB's!!! She called me her "wedding counselor" and kept her "sane" through the whole planning process. The "Day of" was amazing and so much fun!

The wedding was held at The Quarry in Naples, FL. Kevin from Botanicals by the Bay did an amazing job on the flowers, Ashley Brockinton Photography brought their team - can't wait to see her photos (these are from my Canon Point & Shoot), and the cake is from Mickelsons.

Unity Margarita for Destination Wedding in Mexico

This is the cutest, most unique wedding idea I've heard of in a long time. I love creativity!!!

Darcie and Noel, have become dear friends here in NYC. They are an adorable couple and are working on making their upcoming destination wedding in Mexico very personal and unique. One of the ideas they came up with for their beach ceremony is a "Unity Margarita"! I think this is such a cute idea and it fits their personality. They've put a lot of thought into the meaning behind the "Unity Margarita" and they plan to actually mix it together during the ceremony while their officiant explains the meaning and then share a sip!

Margarita Ingredients:

Ice = BONDS/STRENGTH

Tequila = HONOR (The number one selling Tequila in Mexico is El Jimador. This was created in 1994 to "Honor" the men who harvest agave plants.)

Triple Sec used for sweetening = TENDERNESS (very important in a relationship)

Fresh Lime Juice is the "Key Ingredient" which creates BALANCE in the drink and the marriage relationship.

Salt on the rim of the glass = "PIZZAZZ" (FUN and LAUGHTER)

10 Ways to Make Your Marriage Divorceproof

For starters, no public squawking at each other. Read on for a few more smart (and funny) suggestions from these happily wed comedians.

1. Realize that if you can agree on what constitutes a clean room, you can agree on anything.
If you are the kind of person who wants the vacuum tracks on the living-room carpet to last all week (as in, Jason), you need to understand that your spouse is physically unable to hover three inches off the floor when traveling from point A to point B. You may have to shoulder the burden of raking the shag rug twice a day yourself. Conversely, if you are the type of person who "gets around " to wiping up a raw chicken-juice spill on the counter (for example, Sam), you should know that if you want to live with other humans, you need to surpass the hygiene standards of, say, the average fraternity-house bathroom. Fortunately, if you can compromise on the red hot-button subject of cleanliness, your marriage is unlikely to be thrown off course by comparatively less volatile topics, like politics, religion, and money.

2. If you're irritated by your partner, imagine him as a small child.
We know! You totally don't want to try this! It sounds awful! (And maybe even not that much of a stretch.) But trust us — this is an amazing way to see him from a fresh angle. Here's what to do: While your partner is puttering around and looking idle, imagine him at age five. Awww. Isn't he adorable? And so smart! It's easy to forget how appealing your spouse is when you are looking at him through a prism of all the chores that he has yet to accomplish (fixing the garage-door opener, booking the tree-removal service ... we could go on).

3. No fisticuffs in public.
Take this example: We were at a picnic with a group of friends when the wife of one of the couples present casually announced that she had bought their family a house. In another country. Without consulting the husband. He turned about 14 shades of red, and they began fighting at the top of their lungs. Cut to everyone else with their heads down, forensically examining their egg-salad sandwiches as though they contained the secrets of the human genome. You do not want to be That Couple Who Ruined the Otherwise Delightful Picnic.

4. Marry someone with a backbone who appreciates that you possess one of your own.
That said, try to have bendy backbones if possible. Don't attempt to win every argument and get your way all the time. Who could bear all that responsibility, anyway? Repeat this spouse-mollifying phrase after us: "Yes, honey, I will see the Transformers sequel on one of our precious and rare date nights. But on our next excursion, I get to choose a period piece featuring people in bonnets who churn their own butter."

5. Procrastinate.
Yes, we know things need to be done, but seriously. Put your BlackBerry away and stop worrying about the broken garage-door opener. Have dessert in lieu of dinner. Watch old John Hughes movies. Hold hands. There, aren't they smoother than how you remembered them?

6. Have sex with each other.
And if you can't have sex with each other for some reason, let your spouse know that you are thinking about having sex with him and that you are looking forward to the next time you are both available for sex. Like, in 2012. Try sending a "sext"; apparently it's all the rage.

7. Accept that everybody needs alone time.
Sometimes your spouse needs to go to the bathroom for 45 minutes. Look, he's not going to the bathroom the whole time; he's trying to get away from you. And that's OK. Maybe you're being annoying. Sometimes you can be kind of annoying, you know.

8. If you have to fight, walk and fight.
In our experience, arguments stem more from being cooped up together in tight quarters than from the issue at hand. Plus, getting fresh air is good for you, and it will give you more energy for No. 6. (Hey, everyone knows that makeup No. 6 is the best kind.)

9. Let your spouse in on 90 percent of your day-to-day routine.
Save the other 10 percent for your bathroom time. Sam, for example, will never allow Jason to see her lurching to put on a pair of panty hose, and he never wishes for her to see him struggling to shave the back of his neck. It's those small things that keep the mystery alive.

10. When you buy gifts for each other, give them at least a full minute of thought.
Sam's mother once gave her partner a giant meat grinder for Christmas so that he (an extremely reluctant cook) could make her tastier hamburgers. In our opinion, gifts that require someone to perform a household task don't count as gifts. A present should convey the message "I love you, but most of all, I get you." (Yes, that's a tough sentiment to express with a big-box-store gift card. Ahem.) Like playing chess or figuring out Facebook privacy settings, delighting a longtime spouse is a genuine challenge — which (duh) is what makes it worth the effort.

Anniversary date - everything happens for a reason!

So here's my story: Jim and I wanted to celebrate our 27th Wedding anniversary - our first one in NYC! As a family, we enjoy celebrating events but aren't concerned with specific days but try to be more concerned with enjoying time together. I've struggled with holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. because growing up holidays, etc. were times of decorations, presents and celebrating in meager but special ways. I've learned over the years to not have great expectations about holidays and not to count on cards, presents, etc. My husband and kids enjoy time together but don't focus on celebrating Christmas on Christmas, etc. It does help me realize what is important.

SO, our anniversary is June 25 but we had free tickets to a "Happy Hour" cruise on the New York harbor on June 24th so we thought we would go on a romantic cruise and then out to dinner. Jim had a meeting and asked me to meet him at the boat. He told me to take the F train to 4th and transfer to the A or C! Easy enough - leave at 5pm and meet him at 6pm board at 6:15pm.

I decided to spend a little effort to look nice to meet my husband for this date! I curled my hair, put on a sundress, his favorite cologne, jewelry he has given me over the years, etc. - you get the picture. Its too hot in NYC and we were going on a boat so I was thinking about throwing on pants, a tank top and putting my hair back, but I decided Jim deserved a little effort!

Remember, everything happens for a reason! I was ready and made it out of the house and down to wait for the "red bus" to take me to the subway station. I realized that I did not bring a hair clip to pull my hair back on the boat. So I ran into the grocery store by the bus station and grabbed a hair clip and went to the register. I saw the bus so I put the clip back and went to get on and it left with out me :( I went back and got the clip and paid for it and another bus pulled up. It was my favorite bus driver so we got to chat.

I proceeded down "the hole" to the subway, no problem. I didn't wait too long for the train, it arrived, I boarded and I was on my way to meet my honey for our anniversary. I exited as instructed at 4th Street and found the "B" train (in my mind Jim said "B" or "C"). I boarded and again was on my way .... it was about 6pm and we were supposed to get on the boat at 6:15pm.

I was on the subway thinking I was getting off at the next stop when the train came up from underground and suddenly we were on a bridge going over the East River. I quickly texted Jim and said, "I'm on the "B" train, what do I do?" then we went back underground (no cell phone service). Jim didn't know what I should do, he didn't know where I was or where the "B" train was going.

I got off on the next stop, tried to figure out where I was, asked for directions, ran down to grab the next train, missed it, then I looked at my phone and Jim had texted me and told me to get a cab ASAP. I ran upstairs and hailed a cab (I don't do that often) and I was on my way across the Manhattan Bridge to the South Street Seaport.

I had a lovely chat with the taxi driver and glanced over the the Brooklyn Bridge that was completely packed with stopped cars - its "rush hour" in NYC but my driver chose the Manhattan Bridge and we made it back to Manhattan safely and quickly.

I jumped out of the cab about 6:15pm and saw Jim (I really just wanted to cry after being on the wrong train, having to pay for a cab, etc.) He hugged me and looked me in the eyes and I said I was sorry for making a goofy mistake and he hugged me and reminded me that "everything happens for a reason" and I agreed and he looked me in the eyes and said, "you look stunning!" He hugged me again, looked me in the eyes, reminded me that "everything happens for a reason", hugged me again and said, "the cruise was canceled!"

Total bummer on the boat, but total score on the effort to impress my man! We decided to go straight to dinner. Jim hailed a cab which wasn't easy. We noticed there were police everywhere and the taxi driver said that they were closing several streets. He could take us to our destination but it was a bit of a journey because of the street closings - we still aren't sure what was going on. We made it to the restaurant. Our meal was delicious and romantic and we talked about what we remembered from our wedding day!

I'm not sure what all the reasons were or what God was maybe saving us from but we went with the flow and enjoyed our time together. We laughed about the events of the evening. If this had happened years ago, I would have been crying and upset that our plans did not work out and that our evening was ruined. I have a way of "idealizing" things and when things don't work out how they do in my mind I get flustered, frustrated and upset. Thanks to my wonderful husband (and my children), I've learned to "go with flow", focus on what is important and remember that "everything happens for a reason"!

Jim thought I looked "stunning" and we enjoyed our time together - nothing else really mattered!

Twenty seven years ago today I said "I do" to Jim Hines and my life has never been the same. It was a short romance/engagement and within 6 months we were married. On our first date I told him that I wanted to marry him and have his children (some alcohol might have been involved) - but God is gracious and good and my dreams came true. We were married in my Aunt's backyard in Osprey, Florida. Our good friend, Yvonne performed the ceremony. The bride wore a "Gunny Sak" dress and I'm not sure who did her hair - do you ever look at old photos and ask yourself, "What was I thinking?"

Jim is an incredible man and I am blessed to be his wife. God intervened in our marriage early on and radically changed our lives and our marriage forever. He graciously gave us three amazing children, added a beautiful daughter-in-love, a totally awesome grandson and a granddaughter scheduled to arrive in November.

The ceremony was cheap and simple, but the memories and repercussions of the day are eternal!

I love you, Jim Hines - thank you for choosing me to be your wife! Everyday is an adventure with you and our God! -- "WHAT'S NEXT?"

Their recessional song was "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" - totally hysterical and totally them! I remember Ashley's dad making a few funny comments and then asking that someone keep him away from the microphone.

Fuji Instant Camera fun!

This weekend our son and his girlfriend came to visit us in NYC! She brought her Fuji Instant Camera and it was so much fun.

As a Wedding Planner, I always look at things with the perspective of how we can use this at a wedding.

These photos are "business card" size and would be great to put in a "guest book". Your guests could take their picture and paste/tape it directly into a book of your choice.

Erin found the camera on Amazon for about $67 and the film is about $13 for 20 photos! Have fun!

This weekend I had the privilege of coordinating Katie & Luis' vintage, chic wedding at the Plantation Golf & Country Club. Todd Blanton and his staff did a great job with the set up, arrangements, food and service. Sue Bain from Signature Florals, brought beautiful flowers to finish off the amazing decor that my beautiful bride, Katie, planned for months. Here are a few pictures of the details that included birds, birdcages, feathers, candles, moss, etc. The name cards were placed on the napkins at each place settings and the alphabetical lists were framed and hung on an antique door - it was so beautiful. The flowers girls carried birdcages and sprinkled feathers down the aisle. Our friends, Kelly and daughter, Lauren put the candy bar together and Whitney who interned with Kelly McWilliams helped tweak all the details for me while I dealt with the guests and wedding party. It was a great team effort - Katie & Luis have great families and a great group of friends who love them very much. It was a wonderful day that honored God which was the bride and groom's goal!!! Lauren and Bill tied the knot on 3/1/08 at Naples Grande. It was the most amazing wedding that I had ever been involved in and the wedding that launched Chandelier Productions! I love this couple and their families. It was a blessing to be a part of this celebration!

Lauren's mom designed and had the fireplace built. It was quite the construction project that started during the day on Friday and went late unto the night (early morning). Matthew and Zoe from 50/Fifty Floral Design provided the most amazing flowers. My favorite was the "trough" of cherry blossoms with hanging tea light lanterns that was the "background" for the wedding procession and additional decor for the reception.

The ceremony was held in the Vista Ballroom. Orlando Cabrera from Summit Church officiated the ceremony and as always, did an amazing job. He had us all crying! After the wedding, guests were ushered out to the Sunset Terrace for a cocktail reception with a signature non-alcoholic pink pina colada!

Background note, the ceremony started at 5:00pm and at the same time, the pool was closed and transformed into the dinner venue - the hotel had a little over an hour to accomplish this task - they did an amazing job along with the staff from 50/Fifty!

Bill & Lauren took advantage of the hotel's beautiful surroundings and had all of their photographs taken before the ceremony along with the bridal party and family. During the cocktail reception, the wedding party dashed down to the beach for a few sunset pictures taken by Cher Hanna and her husband!

The dinner reception took place around the pool with amazing floral and table designs. Matthew also had the most unusual and beautiful decor item installed - floating 6 foot "balloons" with images of pink peonies projected on them. I'm still not sure how they did it, but it was amazing. It was a cool March evening and the bride's mother provided white shawls from Ikea for all the ladies - a great, much appreciated, detail to the evening!

During dinner, we transformed the ceremony site to a "lounge" area for the rest of the reception. We brought in furniture, an awesome band "Vintage Vinyl", set up the most beautiful candy bar that I have ever seen and changed all the lights from white to pink. Guests were directed back up to the Vista Ballroom for the remainder of the celebration.

The chef at the Naples Grande baked the cake and had words to the song that Bill wrote for his proposal to Lauren written around the sides of the cake - it was beautiful and delicious. Late in the evening, after lots of dancing, cake and more signature pina coladas the hotel staff served little hamburgers and french fries - so fun!

Frost Lighting and Draping provided additional decor for the ceremony and reception. They were amazing to work with and a lot of fun! There were so many details to this wedding. We worked two 17 hour days to coordinate this wedding - it was awesome and so memorable.

Christmas is always a great time to catch up on everyone’s life. It’s the time that we sit down and document what has happened over the past year. Well, I’ve been thinking about what has happened in our lives over the past 26 years– I’m only including the highlights and there is a point!

It was January 1983, Jim Hines was seriously thinking about moving to NYC, it was his dream. Mary Mahler was planning to move back to DC, in the meantime she was assigned to work as a temporary secretary at the office where Jim was working. They met on January 18^th, went out on their first date on January 25^th, and were married on June 25^th.

Michael was born on 10/26/84. Mary became a follower of Christ in early 1985. Sarah was born on 1/26/87. Jim became a follower on Christ in May of 1987. Charlie was born on 12/19/88. The Hines Family moved to Naples in 1991. Michael married Sarah Lynn Riger on 8/13/2006. Soren Paul Hines was born on 12/24/2008. Jim became Executive Director of SCPI (www.scpi.org) Saturation Church Planting International 6/1/2009. Jim, Mary & Sarah moved to NYC on December 2^nd!

Our odyssey is an amazing God story. He has been in the center of everything that we have done. We can honestly say that God orchestrated the events in our life so specifically that we know He wants us in NYC. Obeying Him and deciding to go was easy, trusting Him with all the details is hard. We miss Charlie, Michael, Sarah & Soren, we miss our friends, we miss our washer & dryer, etc. Naples has become our vacation destination of choice and we plan to visit often.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. (He rules and we can rest) And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor (He knows and understands everything we are going through), Mighty God(He is powerful enough to handle our struggles), Everlasting Father (there’s no end to His love), Prince of Peace (He alone can give us peace that is not dependent on our circumstances). Isaiah 9:5-7

We've moved to NYC!

Long story - short .... circumstances orchestrated by God led us to move to NYC on December 1st! The move went well, everything is unpacked, we hosted our first guests this past weekend and today I'm hanging pictures. Its cold, I can't deny that, but our apartment seems to be retaining some heat! We are heading back to SWFL for the holidays and then back to the big city. I don't know what this move will mean to Chandelier Productions, but I'm looking forward to discovering the city, the NYC wedding business and making new friends!

I was at Waterside Shops today and they were having a party to celebrate the opening of the Romero Britto museum. DJ Ceron was playing the tunes, the weather was awesome and THEN there were walking trees and orchids.

My pictures aren't great, but you can look at pictures and videos at Thelivinggarden.com. They were amazing and I thought they would be totally fun at a wedding reception.

The costumes were beautiful and the "dancers" were fascinating how they interacted with the audience, fellow "plants" and the architecture around them.

Saturday, November 7, 2009 - it was a busy wedding day all over SWFL. I was at the Golf Club at Tiburon with my dear friends Christine & Shawn.

It was such a beautiful day and everything went so well. The day after the wedding, Christine posted on Facebook that she has a "permanent smile" on her face! She is so fun and so sweet (so is her husband) - we all stayed at the Ritz at Tiburon and she texted me at 8:30am that she was wide awake and was in the lobby - so we met for coffee and talked about the wedding!!! What a blessing to be a wedding coordinator for such wonderful people.

My other blessing was working with dear friends and fellow wedding professionals - cuddos to Peggy Farren at Avant Garde Photography (can't wait to see the photos), Dale Kubala at Connie Duglin Linens (gorgeous Blueberry Crinkle linens), Grace Bolen at Gracie's Cupcakes (amazing - strawberry, red velvet, chocolate and carmel), Jessica & Josh at Tiburon (wonderful service), Symphonie de Fleurs did the florals and Jay Seidl did a great job with music for the ceremony and brunch.

The highlight was the cupcake display. It was so fun to work with Grace to create the display. We used the girls bouquets to fill in with flowers and glass shelves and glass blocks to create the "architecture" - so great!

Ceremony most meaningful to guests - receiving line last in order of preference.

Recent survey indicates guests preference in order:

Watching the ceremony;
the music and dancing;
the food;
seeing the bride’s gown;
toasts and speeches;
cutting of the cake;
seeing the bridesmaids’ dresses;
group dances;
throwing of the bouquet;
throwing of the garter;
and then, that receiving line.

Spend your money and time wisely - on what is important to you and your spouse and keep your guests preferences in mind along the way! Happy planning....

My suggestion for receiving line is to have your guests stay seated after the ceremony and you and your spouse return down the aisle and greet each guest individually. It serves several purposes, it is a "receiving line" but people get to see you, they don't have to stand in a long line and it ushers your guests out to reception and then you can take photos, etc. - it works great.

Centerpiece with orchids & lemons!

These are photos that I took of what was left over from a centerpiece used at the Talent Ventures & Lyfe of the Party "Talent Showcase" last Monday. It was a great event and we had a lot of fun. Sarah & Jenny gave us these flowers to take home. They actually had a moroccan looking lantern in the middle that really made the centerpiece incredible. I love the mixture of lemons, berries and orchids. The red and yellow orchids are great - I love, love, love the textures!

Soren is 9 months old today and is such a joy in our lives! It is hard to describe the love I have for this little man - it might have something to do with how much I love his Grampa AND his mommy & daddy. He truly is a sweet little guy and so much fun to be around. Everything is new and most things are funny to him - even oatmeal! He's gotten used to the camera and Grammy taking pictures of him. I can't wait to see him today and kiss his little cheeks! In between playing today, he's going to help me get ready for Great Grandma's visit next week. You've been to a few weddings yourself, so you know there are just some things that can rub you the wrong way. Here are a few helpful reminders about what guests can't stand.

You may think your wedding is all about you and your groom (or maybe just you) but, hello, you're hosting a party! If your guests are miserable, your wedding will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. So we talked to dozens of frequent wedding guests — from always-a-bridesmaids to recent brides to guys in their 20s and 30s — to find out what they hated about the events they've attended. We've kept the guests' names secret just in case they're coming to your wedding!

Your Timing Stinks
Huge time gaps between the ceremony and the reception — the ones where the ceremony starts at noon, but the party isn't until 7 p.m. — are annoying because you're often leaving us in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do. We don't want to kill time at a restaurant because we're hoping you'll feed us well at your reception. And there's only so much lingering we can do at a coffee shop or a bookstore ... in our dressy clothes! We'd much rather head straight to the party after the "I dos."

You're Boring Us
The ceremony may be the most important part of the day to you, but the reception is what we're really looking forward to. When it takes forever to get dinner served, each speech is 25 minutes long, and you play a string of songs that are all inside jokes with the same group of friends, there isn't much time for getting our groove on. Uh, and if the band's so bad that no one's dancing — including you and your groom — we just think, Why are we even here? Showing us a really good time is the least that you can do to thank us for giving up our free day, traveling, and getting you an expensive gift.

The Food Isn't Great
Why would you bother spending thousands on your flowers if your food is going to taste terrible? We want a delicious meal way more than we want pretty centerpieces. You don't know this, but we actually think of that $200 gift as a contribution to a great meal. If it's not as good as something we'd have at a restaurant, we're going to be disappointed. Even if the food is tasty, don't make us go hungry. We don't need an eight-course meal, but we don't want to have to push through other guests just to get to the tiny hors d'oeuvres you're calling dinner.

You Make Us Pay?!
Treat your guests like guests; don't make us bring our wallets whenever we want a drink! When you have more than 300 guests and a cash bar, we wish that you would've just cut the list and paid for our drinks instead. How exactly are we supposed to feel when we paid for flights, a rental car, a hotel room, and a gift, and then you make us pay at the bar? So not cool.

You Sat Us Here
We want to have fun at your wedding, believe us, but it's pretty tricky when you seat us right in front of giant speakers. We won't be able to talk to anyone at our tables or enjoy our dinner if you're blowing out our eardrums. Before you book your venue, make sure there's enough space for tables without having to make us sit in the DJ's lap. And don't make us suffer in the heat. If you're having a summer wedding, do it somewhere with air conditioning!

Also, if you want to be outdoors, don't make us rough it: Walking around in the mud, swatting bugs, or using porta-potties is even less fun in formal attire. And please give us plenty of places to sit. Cocktail hours are great, but it's pretty tough to balance our plates, drinks, and purses while standing — in heels no less!

You Don't Invite a Plus-One
Nothing reminds us of our dating status like a wedding. No need to rub it in our faces with even more reminders. The garter and bouquet tosses are like saying, "Hey, look at them. They're single!" Could you blame us if we hide in the bathroom as soon as the DJ announces it? And, come on, even if they did honestly predict we'd be the next to marry, do we really want some cheesy guy slipping garters up our legs? Of course, we'd prefer to be invited with a date, but we get why you may not be able to give us that, especially if we'll know lots of other people there. But if everyone we know is making out with their significant other all night, we're going to be pissed that you couldn't include one extra person to make us feel a little more comfortable.

You Put Us to Work
We know we'll have to help out with some tasks when we agree to be in the bridal party, but it's insulting when you consider a task like manning the guest book table an honor. We'd rather just be a regular guest at the wedding than have some silly duty like that. At the very least, give us a heads up if you'll need our help. Don't spring flower girl babysitting duties on us minutes before the reception.

You Don't Say Thank You
It's frustrating when we fly all the way to your wedding and you don't take the time to thank us for making the trip. Even if we haven't come a long way, make an effort to thank us for coming anyway. We know it's hard to talk to every guest at the wedding, but that's why, at the very least, we better get a thank-you card from you when you get back from your honeymoon!

A few weeks ago my friend Peggy Farren from Avant Garde photographed my daugther underwater. Sarah is a beautiful ballerina and Peggy wanted to catch her grace in the water! We even did a wedding dress photo although one of them we are calling "the dead bride" - guess which one.

I see everything thru the eyes of a wedding planner ....

I'm spending some time in the city - NYC! Oh how I would love to plan a wedding here. Today we walked down a street that was lined with florists - flowers, plants, vases, branches, wheat grass (my favorite decor) covered the sidewalks. We were headed to "House of Brews" or I would have stopped to literally "smell the roses"! All I could think of was weddings, weddings, and more weddings - lots of idea spun through my head.

Yesterday I went to the NYC Public Library - what an awesome place for a wedding - simply marvelous architecture. Today we went to St. Paul's Chapel across from the World Trade Center - it survived the attack with no windows broken! It is a beautiful chapel complete with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and an historic graveyard very picturesque - I know that sounds weird but the flowers, trees and sunlight filtering through was beautiful.

To top it all off I spotted a mobile cupcake van - only in NYC! I like cupcakes.

Wedding Connection Sunset Cruise

Big thanks to Harry & Libby Julian and the crew of "Cruise Naples" for the awesome sunset cruise last night on "Double Sunshine". I love the boat and the atmosphere and the crew was wonderful. The cruise would make a great rehearsal dinner (catering can be arranged with Jon Phillips of CaterMasters) or a bachelor/bachelorette party or a small wedding - think about the possibilities.

We had a great group of wedding vendors on the boat and we had a blast enjoying being out on the water and time with old and new friends.

I want to thank everyone who came out and it was great to have spouses and friends join us for the cruise. Next month's event is being planned and I will announce it soon. I love getting together with you all. I have made so many great business and personal connections and I know you have too! I love this industry and I love you all! See you in August!

SWFL Wedding Connection is a group of wedding professional friends that meet monthly. Last month we were invited to the home of Jon & Dru Phillips of CaterMasters and Cinderella Catering. It was a great evening, the food was incredible and time with friends was fun. Lyfe of the Party brought beautiful floral arrangements that were accented by linens from Dale Kubala at Connie Duglin Linens and DJ Dayve provided the music. Check out the flowers - I love the one with blueberries! July's event is being held on July 9th on "Double Sunshine", a sunset cruise hosted by Cruise Naples!

For my wedding last week, we needed a "sign" to direct guests into the reception venue.

The morning that the mother of the bride called me to ask about making a sign, I read a Twitter from Wedding Chicks advertising their "Etsy" store that included personalized signs, shirts and totes. I was able to immediately send the MOB to the site and she ordered the sign. it was great - here's a photo. Thanks "Wedding Chicks", Thanks "Etsy", Thanks Twitter!

Julie & Carlos get married!

Last Wednesday I had the privilege of coordinating the wedding for Julie & Carlos! We planned the wedding in about 6 weeks - it was great fun and Julie's mom and I became quick friends!

Julie & Carlos are a very endearing couple - Julie was a beautiful bride and I really noticed Carlos' tenderness towards her the day of the wedding. So awesome!

The ceremony was held at the 18th Ave S beach access in Naples. It was sooo hot, but the ceremony site was beautiful and simple. I was so busy I did not get any photos of it :( The colors were lime green and pink. We tied chair ties down the aisle and my husband (the florist - not) put bunches of green button poms in the "tie" - he did a great job.

The reception was held at Jane's Cafe on 3rd St & 13th Ave. It was a beautiful, quaint venue and I loved working with Paul and his staff. They were amazing and the food was wonderful - go have breakfast or lunch sometime and tell Paul I said "hi"!

Tonya Malay was the photographer and I enjoyed working with her and her staff and can't wait to see the photos. Sergei from Dolphin Transporation drove the trolley to transport the guests to and from Jane's Cafe to the beach. He did a great job. Nancy Joseph came the Julie's house and did "airbrush" makeup that is "sweat proof" - she did a beautiful job and Julie was beautiful all night long.

There were lots of little special touches that the bride and her mom added to make the day special. It was a hot one though! I don't think I have ever sweated like that before - ever! My husband was my assistant for this wedding and he did an amazing job.

Wedding planners should get together and write a book on funny things that happen - as the groom was walking across the sand to the "aisle" I noticed he had his cell phone in his pants (white linen) so I walked up to him and asked for it along with a bottle of cologne!!! Then as the matron of honor was walking, she came towards me slightly and whispered "we forgot the rings"! I quickly grabbed a fake ring out of the ER kit and then grabbed my husbands wedding band and gave them to the best man while the bride was walking down the aisle!!! I had to laugh. All in all it was a perfect day for the bride, the groom, their families, guests and Chandelier Productions!

Six years ago today at the Naples Beach Club, Katie & Matt were married! It was a beautifully sunny and hot day - Katie was gorgeous, Matt was handsome and the officiant was very hot (my husband Jim)! I've know Katie & Matt since they were in high school - such dear sweet friends - Congrats. I am currently working on Katie's sister's wedding in November - how fun is that!

Tip: The one thing most brides don't get on their wedding day is a break. If you want to enjoy individual moments more and deal with questions and disasters less, hiring a coordinator should be a high priority on your to-do list. The quality time you'll gain is well worth the fee.

"I would have taken pictures of my bustle at my final dress fitting. When I was 'bustling up' before the reception, we couldn't quite figure out how to get it right."
Tip: Arranging the bustle is indeed a not-so-easy task. Bring a member of your bridal party with you to the the bridal salon when you go for your last fitting. She can learn precisely what needs to be done for the wedding.

Today is my daughter-in-love's birthday and my grandson's 5 month birthday! What a great, fun day - tonight we will celebrate at Sarah's parent's house with a mexican fiesta - I can't wait. It is such a joy to have Sarah Lynn in our lives: she loves and respects my son, is being a wonderful mother to our grandson and I am honored to call her my dear friend - we have a lot of fun together. I am truly blessed beyond measure.

Soren is sitting beside me playing with a ball. All of my children are asleep and enjoying a quiet morning. I love being able to give my daughter-in-love some extra sleep in the morning - they surprised me last night when I arrived home from Gainesville and ended up spending the night. I love this.

I wish you could see Soren's face right now - he is mesmerized by the screen - so incredibly cute. I need to go dry my hair. I'm going to head to church - my honey bear is playing bass this morning and I am going to spend the whole morning thanking God for His blessings upon our family!

I know it sounds funny - but here's a crazy idea. I was in Arcadia yesterday visiting my sister and we were walking around the antique shops. I commented about how fun it would be to do a wedding where everything from the dress to the centerpieces came from antique/thrift stores - it could totally be fun and beautiful.

Then we stumbled upon a new Bed & Breakfast - The Oak Park Inn. It is beautiful and has 12 rooms and banquet facilties and space. You could totally do a fun ceremony and reception there.

Months ago Ashley Brockinton and I came up with the idea to start having lunch with our friends who we know in the wedding industry. We've been having a blast getting together monthly and forming friendships and working relationships.

Yesterday, we had lunch at Buca de Bippo. We had about 30 wedding vendors who gathered for lunch hosted by Jackie Ritter at Buca. The conversations were great and the food was delicious - thank you Jackie for arranging this - it was a lot of fun!

Next month, Jon Phillips from CaterMasters and Cinderella Catering is hosting an "after five" event for us on June 11th at his home. He is going to provide refreshments and cook for us. I can't wait - in addition to seeing my friends, we get to sample awesome food from CaterMasters! If you're interested in join us email me - we love meeting new friends!

Today was a special treat in many ways! First, my sister Carol drove down from Nocatee to take me out to lunch for my birthday. I'm not sure we have ever done this - it was so sweet. I suggested a new place that a friend just told me about, The Survey Cafe in Bonita Springs.

For months now, a group of wedding professionals have been meeting monthly for lunch to visit and do a bit of networking. Its been great fun. I love meeting new friends and connecting people in new relationships.

In these interesting economic times, its been great to be able encourage one another in our efforts to provide quality wedding services to our clients and earn a living! At the core of who we are, we want to know that we belong and we matter - we desire relationships. I believe this is why Facebook and Twitter are becoming so popular, but that is another post for another time.

Today's luncheon was hosted by my dear friend Vicki Tracy, Community Relations & Outreach Manager for Bentley Village, a Hyatt property. Lunch was very delicious, the company was wonderful and tour of the venue was great and very informative. THANK YOU Vicki! I had a great time today with my dear wedding professional friends!

Wine & Cheese Surprise Party

I've always loved planning parties, especially "themed" parties. I remember as a teenager I would throw themed parties, although back then no one would come to my parties :(. My favorite was a luau in my Aunt's backyard around her pool. It was great. Those are my roots as an event planner!

Tonight I hosted a surprise birthday party for a dear friend of mine. We had a wine and cheese party and we had a lot of fun. I had a great time designing it and I have enclosed some photos. I found some great things at "Michael's" like wine charms, matching coasters, garden "markers" that I used to label the cheese, etc.

Everyone was asked to bring a bottle of wine and I put blank labels on the bottles and people voted for their favorite. I had a fun little prize for the winner.

My latest adventure - cake balls! My daughter found the recipe on www.bakerella.com. They taste incredible and for my first attempt - they are pretty too! You bake a cake, crumble it and mix it with icing, roll in balls and dip in chocolate. The "cupcakes" take another step, but they were pretty easy to make - it just took a little time. It was an experiment and it was fun.

This was so fun - while we were eating lunch outside at the Ritz, they started setting up for an outdoor concert. The gang took a couple runs up on the mountain while we waited for the concert to start. "Rooney" is the band and they were great. The lead singer played "Michael" in "The Princess Diaries". Right before they started playing the snow began to fall and it came down hard. It was so much fun sitting outside, drinking hot chocolate and hot buttered rum and listening to the band. What an awesome treat.

Last weekend I was visiting friends in Colorado and we went skiing at Beaver Creek. Well, everyone went skiing except for me. I spent time visiting shops, fireplaces, comfy chairs, etc. I got a call to meet the gang at the Ritz for lunch and while I was waiting for them to arrive down the slopes, I went roaming the halls and found a flurry of activity on a wedding reception! Here are a few shots I took. It was beautiful - an asian flare with white cherry blossoms and lots of candles. The room was set up for two events - dinner and dancing. The venue was split with black drapes that separated dinner from the "dance club". The entrance was a lined with candles and a red carpet and rose petals. As a planner, it was a treat to stumble upon this .... Enjoy the photos!

My daughter-in-law is very talented and creative. These are photos of "onesies" that she has made from adult shirts. The first one is of Soren wearing a onesie made from one of his daddy's work shirts. The second photo is a onesie that Sarah was "commissioned" to sew for a baby of a band member from a shirt that his daddy designed. This is such a cute idea for gifts. She is hoping to sell the idea on "Etsy" a homemade/craft website. Sarah is an excellent seamstress and I'm excited about the possibility of a little "cottage" business for her.

Sunday will be Lauren & Bill's first anniversary. I was privileged to coordinate their wedding at the Naples Grande. I stopped in today to get some information for a new client. I mentioned the DeAngelis wedding to the concierge and he commented that it was the most beautiful wedding he had seen at the Grande - then I mentioned that I helped planned the event! It was a sweet moment. More importantly, Lauren and Bill are a sweet couple and I wish them many more happy years as husband and wife!

The wedding was amazing. I will include a few photos that I took. Cher Hanna was photographer, Vintage Vinyl was the band, 50 Fifty provided design and flowers, Brett Culp provided videographers, Lauren's mom designed and had the fireplace built, etc. The evening included shawls provided at the last minute from a cousin who brought them from Ikea, a great candy bar, dinner poolside, a late night snack of hamburgers and fries and the red Ferrari or was it the Lamborgini? In lieu of a party favor, the couple choose to make a donation to an orphanage in Cambodia - there was a card at each seat with a child's photo and name from the orphanage. It was a great addition to the party. The whole evening was special and showcased the love that this family has for each other, the love that Lauren & Bill share and their love and commitment to God. Happy Anniversary Lauren & Bill!

I'm not good at this blogging thing, but I'm trying. This past weekend, my husband, daughter and I went to New York City for a fun trip together. We had a blast touring the city. We found some wedding ideas that I will post later, but for now I will post photos of the chandeliers we found out and about in the "Big Apple". The first one is hanging in the "Hudson" hotel. The lobby is amazing and the chandelier "lamps" are actually holograms. The second chandelier was hanging in Macy's by the MAC counter - thank you to Meghan who helped Sarah and I pick out some new eye shadow and lipstick colors! Yeah.

For some reason this morning I was thinking about this photo collage. My amazing friend and photographer, Ashley Brockinton, asked me to help her with this photo shoot months ago. We had a great time creating the scenes for this display. We were given an assignment to post pictures of a bride, a planner and an "element" of a wedding. Ashley Albee was our beautiful bride. Ashley Brockinton and I wanted to use "white" with a little "pink" to accent our design. I used my Aunt's Rosenthal china from the 50's that is so chic and modern and simple. I love these candy jars and have used them for several weddings. We were originally going to put fish in them, but that didn't work out so we settled for marshmellows. Did you know they make pink marshmallows. It was so much fun to find them at Target! Anyway, we worked really hard on this project and the pictures are unbelievable. I think it looks like something you would see on "Martha Stewart" or "Style Me Pretty" - way to go Ashley!

A few weeks ago, an old friend called and asked my husband and me to help with his wedding. It was a very intimate, casual ceremony on the beach. The weather was beautiful and we were happy to be involved. My husband, Jim, officiated the ceremony and did an awesome job - as usual. It was interesting watching people stop to look and listen, except for the 3 bikini clad, mature women that were walking behind us just as Michelle and Joe were exchanging their vows! Kiley Melheim, an amazing hair stylist and friend, did Michelle's hair and makeup and flowers were by Botanicals by the Gulf. The wedding and dinner was held at the Naples Beach Club. Susan and her staff did an excellent job.

I started a blog months ago because someone suggested that it was good for my business. I learned today that lots of people have blogs - I guess it is the new thing. So I was encouraged to do more blogging.

Sometimes I have profound things to say, but not that often. I'm going to give this blogging thing a try. We'll see what happens. So this blog is about life and love and family which is the foundation of Chandelier Productions.

Soren is 2 weeks old and is adorable. I spent the afternoon with him today and it was amazing. He is such a beautiful baby. And I promise you that I am not biased at all! I was so blessed to spend time with my son, daughter-in-love and grandson. I can't believe how in love I am with this little boy.

Jesus is the greatest gift I have ever received, but this Christmas he gave me another precious gift - my first grandson! Soren Paul Hines was born Christmas Eve at 9:41pm. He is a beautiful baby boy and I am thrilled to be a grandma! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Gabel Bick Wedding

This weekend I had the honor of coordinating the wedding of Stacy Gabel & Marc Bick. It was an amazing day that went from 8am to 2am. It was all worth it as we watched the beautiful ceremony on the beach and the totally fun reception at the club. I especially loved when Mrs. Gabel came into the dining room while we were finishing decorating and "teared" up as she saw all of her hard work come together and create a very classy affair! Well done Kaye & Stacy! (and Mike and Marc)! It was a lot of hard work and the wind provided a challenge with the Chuppah on the beach - but we prevailed, thanks to Melissa of Bonita Flowers & Gift, and we prayed. The clouds threatened, but in the end it was all gorgeous.

This past weekend, Katie married her best friend, Rob and I had the privilege of helping her plan her wedding day. The day was perfect thanks for Patty Bores of Sweet P Floral Design, Michelle Reed Photography and the Bonita Bay Club - thanks to Becky, Darcy, Danny and staff! The flowers were beautiful, Patty went over and above what we asked for. The club was wonderful to work with and they were all friendly and helpful. Michelle and Eric were a dream to work with and I can't wait to see some photos! For now, here are some pictures that we took. I'm especially grateful for my daughter Sarah who just knows what I need before I ask and is just there by my side. My husband, Jim is my rock and is my emergency contact - thank you honey, I love you.

Ok, I'm going to take a stab at this "blog" thing!

I attended a baby shower on Sunday and I met a delightfully, talented woman, Amy. I really enjoyed speaking with Amy, especially after I learned that she made the cake for the shower. The cake was designed as a bassinet with a canopy over it and a beautiful green bow cascading down over the folds of the canopy. What was even amazing is that it tasted so great. It was white cake with a thick cream and raspberry filing. Amazing! I found out that Amy made the cake for another baby shower that I attended in May - this cake was in the shape of Noah's Ark and every detail was perfect. Amy used chocolate fondant for the "wood" on the ark - it tasted like tootsie rolls! As creative and amazing as these cakes were, Amy specializes in wedding cakes! So, Amy is now a new "friend" of Chandelier Productions! I'm looking forward to working with Amy on a future wedding! Her site is www.thewowfactorcakes.com - they are the WOW factor
